Data card back up

I have just purchased Garmin g2 charts on a Garmin media card is it possible to back these cards up onto another data card or on to a cd so they can be restored back to the garmin data card or new data card if the card gets damaged or corrupted.

Having spent the last 4 hours on the web making sure everything I read is correct, I can now anwser my own question.

The Garmin pre-programmed SD cards can be backed up to a cd or a folder on a pc, however it can only be copied back to the original sd card as the maps are tied to the cards on manufacture.

That’s the basics of what I wanted to know, so that I could safeguard the 165 quid I paid for the maps, however not so good if you manage to damage your sd card taking it in and out of the unit, but suppose Garmin have to protect there data from miss use.

I hope this helps anyone else with data on Garmin sd cards.

Useful info. I'm going to try it with a Bluechart card but I suspect Garmin would replace a damaged card and map if you needed that. They replaced a damaged blank card for me a while ago with out question.

Edit: Preprogrammed Bluechart card is not recognised as a valid data card.
