Cracked case

All

When removing the VHF ready for the new boat it turns out that the silicone was stronger than the case and it's now cracked

Is this terminal? If I could find a case / box to drop the unit into will it remain waterproof if mounted external (current plan on new boat) or will this have to be flush mounted with loads of sealant to protect it??

I've checked and all is working well at present and really don't want to replace with yet another unit - especially as we have private channels pre loaded

Your thoughts appreciated as always.

I'd be tempted to leave it in the outgoing boat , seal it back in and wave good by to the channels.

You'd have to have it reprogrammed anyway with the new boats MMSI anyhow ....

Buy a new one, programme the new MMSi number to it ( when you get it registered to the boat via the ofcom site and see about getting the channels put back in to a new one.

On the basis you are keeping the new boat for a while I think it would serve you well. The the cracked one will give up at some point with water ingress, ..and youd have to buy a new one anyway . Its probably not a big cost as a % of the overall cost of a new boat . And sale season is very nearly here ( and boat show type deals ? )

I was tempted but it's not worth our ICOM license!

Worst case is I'll get a new one and have it pre programmed before mounting, but if I can use this one, even in a case, for a while I will.

If you looking for new icom one pre-programmed - I can supply these.

Look at the m423 - it has nice features!

I will need copies of your ofcom licencee to program.

Thank you - we get them supplied to the club very reasonably. I was trying to avoid replacing a set that is working great, but has a small crack.

Might have to by the sounds of it

I extracted my Icom 411 3 weeks ago to get it repaired ( usual squelch problems). The case cracted as per the photo in this post. I had the unit repaired an posted back to ireland for about 60 british pounds
