Console Trim Switch

Hello,

The twim (up/down) switch on my 'throttle control' (sorry, don't know tech term!) up on my console has stopped working.

The trim switch on the actual outboard works fine.

All other aspects of the 'throttle control' works fine -- ignition, choke, forw/back etc...

I'm starting to methodically go thru the connections, but I was wondering if there was somewhere I should start looking - something it's likely to be?

As the trim on the outboard works ok and rest of throttle control works, I am figuring it's a connection problem on the cable between the handle trim switch and the engine... which is not a fun task of checking/replacing...

Any hints, tips, most appreciated!

Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob,
I had that problem a few years ago, I managed to take the actual switch out of the throttle arm and I found that the contacts had become a little coroded.. I just used a little bit of very fine sandpaper to clean them off, re assembled the switch and it worked perfect! Not sure if it's the same problem you have but it might be worth a look! The switch on the engine is usually a sealed unit and watertight but the one on the throttle arm is not so any water in there and over time it's bound to act up! 

Worth starting at the engine end first, where the loom comes from the contol box and plugs into the engine, there will be some extra wires hanging from the plug, two will be blue/black and green/black they are your trim connentions, so they should be pluged into two wires of the same colour that will come from the trim switch on the engine

Hey,

All fixed!

The power cable running up the throttle arm into the switch had cut through, after continuous rubbing against the arm moving up and down.

Simply reconnected and resealed.

Cheers!
