Battery Charging

Maybe this has been answered before - if so could someone direct me to the right thread?
What are the benefits of getting myself a wind generator as opposed to a solar panel to keep both batteries charged on my rib when it is not in use?
I also have a campervan so whichever I choose would have to be compatible with that as well.
I am hearing all sorts of things about having to get a regulator etc. All I want is a simple life?
