Anyone tried the Lowrance Elite 5x DSI unit?

Has anyone tried/got the Lowrance Elite5x DSI plotter/Sonar unit?

I'm looking hungrily at it but pretty much all the sonar images shown are from less than 50' and I'm wondering if there's a reason for that...

"..recently-tested depths* to 200 ft./61 m," Suggests that it's aimed at the shallow water fisherman or fresh water lake market. The transducer frequency of 455/800khz would back this up. Higher frequencies give better resolution at the cost of depth penetration. A "Normal" dual frequency setup would be 50/200khz. It's also billed as perfect for kayaks, which would bear out the market target group.

True, and you've got me thinking now. The 20' transducer cable could be an issue too.

However it's not really a problem if there's more than 200' of water under me

Wonder if the non-DSI version would work with the transducer from the old unit that's already fitted...
