2001 225hp optimax blowing fuse

Hi,

My opti loses power and then blows the 20 amp fuse. Done some investigation and the pig tail connector to one of the coils is providing intermittent spark. Using a technical term waggling the wires can make it spark and then stop it

So question is while this is clearly not good a fix seems to be a complete ignition harness as the plug doesn't come on its own

Is it likely this could blow a 20 amp fuse would it be sensible to buy a 5 pin pigtail and break into the harness?

I can get a pigtail fit a fiver. A harness is hundreds and I'm reluctant if this isn't a fix.

Thanks for any advice

Neil

Get it plugged into with a DDT with a later cartridge or a proper mercury diagnostic programme.

I had this issue with mine, turned out one of the air injectors was faulty and was blowing the fuse. (this was obvious using a multimeter across it)

IIRC 2001 Opti 225s have the unreliable black injectors.

If you have the wrong DDT cartridge apparently it'll only tell you about the blown fuse.

Swapped out one of the coils for a new second hand one this seems to have resolved it 50 mile run yesterday in some lumpy conditions so up and down on the throttle

Never missed a beat so hopefully resolved

Thanks for the advice. Next step if this comes back [emoji106]
