Yammar 315HP reliability

Hi all, i am cosidering purchasing a boat with a Yammar 315 HP fitted. It has very low hours but i would be working it hard and would be concerned it would let me down.... did i read somewhere about dropped valves?

yes indeed the early examples of these engines had a valve issue that usually became aparent at about 1000 hrs "ticking noises spelled big issues"
however the good news is that the newer examples were modified and the issue has
disappeared.The newer tier 2 compliant version is the 6lpastp2
You may also want to research the type of drive on the boat as the bravo 3 duoprops
are known to fail including the modified bravo3X version.

ps according to Yanmar tech bulletin MSB 02-049 July 3rd 2002 changes including new exhaust valves were made on 6LP-STE & STZE models from s/n51640 onwards
