Yamaha Malta paint job

I have this engine for so many years, that I can't remember.
The engine cover has lost it's decals and the shining finish as well.
It's a blue plastic cover, which turned to a dull blue - grey, due to UV rays of the Greek sun.
I want to give it a newish look, but I' m afraid that the spray paint will be peeled of due to the nature of this plastic itself.
Shall I use some primer?
Any ideas would be helpful.

I would give it a good clean and a wipe over to remove any grease and oil then spray it with a clear 2k petrol resistant laqueur.Aerosol Motorcycle 2k Clear Lacquer PETROL RESISTANT | eBay I have used this particular brand in the past on plastic engine cowls. Gives a good finish.
