Yamaha Malta 3hp Fixed

I thought I would share this in the hope that it helps someone else at some point.

My little Yamaha Malta 3 hp tender engine was a lovely engine and worked flawless until late last year when it started playing up.

I have tried a couple of times to fix this and think now it is achieved. Symtoms were it would sometimes start sometimes not and when it did it would cut out so a real pain.

After stripping the carb down several times and cleaning I noticed that fuel was leaking from somewhere. I tracked this down to the big O ring/gasket type seal between the float chamber and the carb body. I think the carb was leaking petrol from here and then sucking air so no fuel in the jets.

I ordered the new O ring (£5.30 from Seamark Nunn) fitted it and off she went like a dream. This was quite hard to spot so if you are having the same problem with an engine this might just be the problem

Pic of the offending part attached and a pdf exploded view of the carb it is part 17 part No 6G1-14984-00. PDF is below the pic

Thank You for this very useful info, my Malta aux is bril and touch wood nothing has gone wrong with it yet. Can you confirm that it's 3 hp as it doesn't seem to have the hp on either the engine of the documentation?

I've only every changed the oil, and replaced the impeller.

Cheers dave
