Yamaha f115 Outboard Problem

Hi guys,
I could do with some help and advice from the more knowledgeable members of this Group as i'm not too clued up on this sort of thing. This is my first Rib bought earlier this year a Ribtec 585 with the said outboard on it. Last month off Lymington the engine mounting bolts failed in relatively flat seas. There was an impact with a wave but nothing too severe and certainly not something that would have caused this in parts that were structurally sound. The outboard is just out of warranty and has only 140hrs on it. Luckily or not as it turns out we managed to limp back into Lymington and recover the Rib.
I have got it in for repairs in a Marine Engineers workshop now where they tell me they've never seen anything like it. They reckon the forces involved to sheer those bolts should have been massive. Not so unfortunately and my insurance company are quibbling about paying out now, something about wear and tear not covered, on a two yr old motor?
Take a look http://uk.msnusers.com/85bs87107eq94...ictures&fc_a=0

ouch very unlucky sir

only thing I could think was if the bolts were over tightened putting extra stress on them?

were they the right size?

Was the motor professionally fitted?

Hope you get everything sorted

Hi Lee

The outboard was professionally fitted by the previous owner and serviced when due. Looking at a 3 grand bill for all the damage caused but its the time out the water thats bugging me most.

£3000!!! wtf? whats needs repairing?

hey at least it at the end of 'the season', but you have a RIB, there aint no such thing as 'the season' just the wrong weather.

Or as Billey Conelly would say
"there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes "

But you wanna hope insurance can help, you sure you didnt hit something under the water

3 years warranty

I think you should talk directly to Yamaha about it, they have 3 years warranty on the engines depending of the problem, and your engine is only 2 years, it can`t be any difference regarding warranty from Sweden to UK.
Dont give up because this sounds very strange.

Good luck.

Regards
