Yamaha 90A Lower unit gear plate

I am servicing the whole lower unit.

Any ideas on how I am going to get this off without breaking it?

It's old brittle plastic - been on there at least 5 -10 years - maybe never changed ever.

I give my chances as very low to none - I have aleady broken the base plate for the water pump that was fused in...

Maybe I should just buy a new plate and accept my fate.

See attached photo

Cheers

It’s a shift rod plate. Don’t think they are that expensive, but before you dive in there, just check the part is readily available. Looks like part number 688-45321-00-00. There’s an ‘o’ ring under there too you’ll need to replace. Double check on the new part based on the serial number of your engine.
