Yamaha 50 2 Stroke Setup

Would anyone be able to recommend someone in the Northwest who is experienced at setting up older Yammie 2 strokes. My 50DETO could do with a check over, particularly on the ignition adjustment I think.

Whatever I do I just seem to be chasing issues. I suspect someone who actually knows what they are doing may sort it out in a matter of an hour or two.

Anu suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Russ

Carbs are typically the most common problem. They require a tool for balancing to get them set properly too. Not to say ignition problems don't exist, but they are far more rare than issues with fuel.

I've used Clyde Outboards a number of times with a number of different engines and never been disappointed .
Port Glasgow, it 's a bit of a run but after Pennine Marine blew one of my engines up & then charged me the full cost of a service for the privilege I got picky.
They've got a fully equipped workshop and are decent blokes .

+1 for Cameron at Clyde Outboards, but that's an 8 hour round trip. There's also West Wales Marine (Yammie dealers), but again a long haul.

There's a certain amount you can do yourself - full carb strip down, ultrasonic clean, new sparks, etc.

There's Bill Higham in Bangor. No experience of using them though.

Really appreciate the replies.

The carbs have been done. Ultrasonic cleaned etc and it is running better than it ever has. Reliable low idle. Great on WOT but a real misfire low down which is a right pain in harbours etc. Also it has a part throttle issue where it seems to open up on its own which is hard in rougher seas, you try to set a speed which is enough to make headway then it surges off. Thought it could be something on the advance linkage needing adjustment maybe.

I'll have another go at setting/balancing the cards.

Thanks again.
