Yamaha 250 power trim piston rod re-chrome

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible or has had a re-chrome done on the power trim piston rod? The chrome has corroded at the base of the rod (at point of full extension). It was rebuilt with new seals a while ago but those have now become damaged as the corrosion has increased so its time to sort it.

I can either buy a new part approx £250 per piston or see if a re-chrome is possible, the latter being my preferred as I imagine the cost would be cheaper.

Would love to know if anyone has gone down this route or anyone who has any sage advice such as re-man in s/steel, regards Richard

I wonder if you could have a machine shop turn down the piston rods to suit the inside diameter of a suitable stainless tube so you are sleeving the original rod back to original outside diameter. depending on the size that would be cheaper than remaking the rod in solid stainless.

Ah, a clever idea. But I may go down the non-OEM route and give these guys at 5 start marine in the US a shot.
