Sometimes. Spline counts used on the prop shaft differ between mfgrs. Used to have a table that showed who had what, but can't find it now.

Often if you have a prop you really want to use, it's a matter of getting new bushing installed, which a prop shop should be able to do (or, if you can get the bushing, any mechanic with a press.) Some aftermarket props have drop-in hub adaptors, so you just need to buy the one that fits your motor.

Many thanks for your reply, I really just want a prop that I can just put on without any messing about.

I have a chance of a suitable (I think) prop but unsure as to it's brand, could be Evinrude / Johnson. It has thirteen splines, same as my Merc. Can any one tell me if it will fit?

Chances are that it will although you may need an adaptor kit which is basically a different thrust washer.

Cheers Erin.
Can you tell me where I could buy such thrust washer. Do you think it would be a good idea to buy the prop and see if it needs a different thrust washer?

yeah, thrust washers & locking are the main differences.

I could swap props between the Merc, the Suz and the Yam (not that I had them all at the same time, but mucking about the props all moved between shafts)

Locking most use a split pin & castellated nut, however Merc use(d?) a tab washer and the prop had two lugs on the back face that it engaged in, so no hole in the shaft for the split pin so use of anyone else's props carries a risk of loosing the nut unless you drill, tap & loctite in a couple of grubscrews to the hub.....
