Yam HPDI Oil

Anyone got an opinion on the oil for a Yam HPDI.

I cant see any reason why I cant run on the quicksilver DFI stuff, but wouldn't mind someone who's done that without problem confirming!!

Who told you not to use the quicksilver dfi oil? That's what we use for our Yamaha vmax hpdi. We haven't had any problems at all because of the oil.

We have had some other problems though, but nothing connected to the oil...

RIBase
HPDI

I have heard of HPDI as been discribed as
High probability of Distructive intent

This is surpirsing as yams tend to be very good engines

I think that's the bigger hpdi engines (200 or 250 hp and above). We push our engine pretty hard, cruising rpm at around 4.300-4.500. My problem with Yamaha is that spare parts are so expensive.

The previous owner of our boat got the hood for the engine stolen and didn't think about putting a bag over the engine when it was raining so our engine is pretty much ruined (but running) and it's really not worth it to change all the electronics in the engine, almost cheaper to just buy a new engine...

Sorry for being off topic...

No one told me I can't, I just wanted to check someone HAD without problems before I did the same. You've confirmed that - thanks !!

Mine is a 250, it seams they got a poor reputation in the early production years for an oiling problem which was fixed with a redesigned oil pump (a free service recall item too).

I've checked I have the "new" pump and the compressions are all spot on.

As ribraf says all DFI engines need lovely clean and water free fuel !

Rock Oil now do a DFI oil, we are moving quite a bit. So much so we have stopped selling the OEM products.
Optimax DFI outboard oil
