If you look up f100 tilt and trim problems in google this comes up all over the world. I think it is a pair of valves that cause the problem. They cost a few quid but the strip down Could be pricey. Worth replacing all the seals etc at the same time. I went another route and bought a second hand one which I was very lucky to find. Still cost me about £700 by the time a local mechanic had hoisted the motor off to fit it.
