Just replaced my impeller last week. When removing the leg I marked the gear shift rod thread with felt tip marker to make assembly easier. Just made sure I connected up and tightened everything up to the mark and all works fine. Seems like you need to either extend or shorten this link rod to get forward and reverse working again. Try a little at a time in both directions until working again.

Ok great thanks! Just a quick one, why would the gear shift rod move when dropping the leg? Or does this need ajusting everytime ?
Thanks

Make sure it's in Neutral when taking apart and assembling. Re connect as per the mark (or lock nut position if present) If nothing has moved it should need no further adjustment. Mine was on a Parsun 9.8 4 stroke. I used the same method on a Yam 5c some years ago, worked every time with no further adjustment.

As above. If the two are in neutral ( control box and gearbox) they will match and good to go
