What's it worth (Mariner 8hp)

Planning to advertise my mariner 8hp short shaft outboard.

Purchased with an inflatable it was new in 2010 but only had a few hours use and in excellent condition with very few signs if use.

Had a look around but don't see any equivalent models for sale so no idea what to advertise it for - any ideas on what it's worth?

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm assuming it's a 4-stroke engine given its 2010. A 2015 4-stroke Mariner short-shaft costs roughly £1,600.

A useful rule of thumb is you lose 20% of the value in year one, then 10% every year there-after. I reckon £850 to £1k would be reasonable. Now is a good time to sell given its the start of the season.

Unfortunately low hours means very little on a leisure engine as there's no way to determine that, unless there's an hour meter, etc. Better to have regular hours and documented service history.

Some 8hp engines here for reference: http://www.seamarknunn.co.uk/download/usedob/used.pdf

At the peak of the season last year I was looking for a mint last of the 2-stroke 8hp Yamaha or Mariner models... prices for a really nice one seemed to be in the region of £700-£850 and these were often 2001-2006 made. Yours would have a premium over these.

I also see a couple of months ago a 2007 Mariner 8hp 4-stroke long shaft made £865 on Ebay. Again yours being newer plus the more popular short shaft would give it a greater value.

The obvious places to advertise are here, Boats & Outboards plus Ebay. I'd go for here and Ebay.
