What's a realistic price for a small engine?

I'm starting to have a look at replacing the aux on my SR4 after the cheap Seagull I had on it got stolen (probably did me a favour), what's a realistic price for something like a 4hp long shaft? I'd budgeted £200'ish, am I likely to find anything in that price range?

Cheers,

Stuart

Should get something for that money although it will be old.
If you spend a little more you'll have a decent amount of choice, I paid £250 for my old 5hp Mariner.

You'll probably find you don't need a long shaft as an aux on an SR4 if you're attaching it directly to the transom. All bar about an inch of the prop will be in clear water using a short shaft.

I used mostly old Evinrude 4 or 2hp shortshafts on mine and they worked fine, but go for a 4hp if you've got room for it. 2hp is very slow, though it'll move it.

£200ish will cover an older short shaft easily.

....and because of the transom rake on a SR, if you put it on the "max trim" (out) pin, at the speeds you'll be doing, the prop will be in clear water anyway.

Got a Tohatsu 3.5hp std shaft here (belongs to a friend) for £300. Only used for around an hour, maybe less. Like new.

Hi, i've dabbled a bit in smaller outboards, keep an eye on on ebay particulary off season like now, bargains do come up, my best "win" was a mercury 4hp for less than £200, 1994 - awesome engine

Best of luck
