What is this for?

Hi,

Just a quick one.

What is this panel for on my 40hp Mariner?

I've got the plate but it's loose and keeps falling out. Wondering if it's OK just to fix it in place permanently?

Cheers

Might be a visual for an oil tank on a two stroke that's been removed ? Is it pre-mix ?

Yes it's pre-mix. Seller told me it was an ex-defence rib.

There's a digital hours display behind but that's at a right angle and appears to be retrofitted.

I might seal it shut with some marine sealant.

It’s definitely a viewing window for the oil (injection) reservoir. Some good pics on this eBay listing. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mariner-4...-127635-2958-0

Ah I can see.

Maybe the hood is a replacement or it has had some conversions done.

Cheers

It’s not had the oil injection removed. The MOD ones never had it. The top cowls are all the same. You can either put a clear on on it if you have an oil tank or a black one on if it doesn’t. I’m pretty sure the parts are no longer available however now.
