Used outboard - unserviced - worth it?

Hi

I know someone selling a Honda Bf20 outboard around 6 years old. It has only done about 12 hours but never been serviced. Is that likely to cause problems or should it be ok due to the low hours.

How long should outboards last if maintained properly?

Don't want to get saddled with a dud.

any advice appreciated

It should be okay if its been stored correctly. Give it a service before using it, as a minimum; engine oil, gear lube, new impeller and make sure all old fuel has been cleaned out.

Plenty of BF100's that are 30 years old still going.

If it's running ok now and has been flushed after use, it won't be a dud. Get it serviced

Hi

its a great engine and as said above get it serviced by your local dealer (as you are to far from us) and enjoy. Oh and make sure its secure as this engine can still be lifted by one person ( we do it all the time) or some @&*$ will steal it.
