Uprating a 2010 9.9hp Mariner to 15hp

Hi all

I'm looking for some advice on a 2010 9.9 HP outboard. Is it possible to uprate this engine to a 15 HP? If so what are points are for consideration ie cost etc

If this isn't possible on a mariner 9.9 are there any other 9.9 HP outboards that can be uprated in HP?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

If its a four stroke you won't be able to. It shares the same block as the 8hp. The 15/20 are a different engine.

If its the current four stoke model then with the right bits, yes.

Edit. Re-read your post, you can't with the 15 2 stroke as the 20hp was a derated 25hp. Although i think mariner did do a 'super' 15 which came from the same engine as the 20/25 two stroke. Never seen one though.

You can upgrade a 9.9 to 15 on most 2 strokes engines if being same CC, some more easier and friendly to upgrade, others needs more parts change to match 15 HP versions. If the Mariner Super 15 it's same as the newer Merc Super 15 version, which are rebadged Tohatsu cowls, are 18 HP in reality. Fancy names, marketing issues...

Super 15s are the same as the 2-stroke Merc 20/25, 2-cyl motor.

Newer rebadged 2 strokes Merc's doesn't have a intermediate 20 HP between 18 & 25, unless sold as a Yam rebadged version. Check 15 HP Super under specs : Mercury Marine 294 CC being same as 18 Tohatsu version. The standard 15 has only 262 same as the 9.9 restricted model. Assume HP Versions could vary from market to market depending which is the manufacturer.
