Tuned 200 hp carb motor

Aving some Eire greif

My mildly tuned 200 hp motor is slow

Run it yesterday not right,,, check comp readings 115 to 120. So all is well running prop as always run, but stuck out at 6100 rpm. It used to hit 7k n be safe

Can not see what is a do , any ideas what may be a miss,,,,

Running modified stator and lightened fly wheel carbs where set proffesionaly last year , only thing I have not tried is swapping out the fuel,,,,can the octane rating make this difference,

What's the fuel, regular 95 octane unleaded? Are the sparks oil-fouled or look just fine?

what engine is this? does it accelerate smoothly, or does it falter and miss?

Is there enough fuel for the engine, it needs a lot at 7000....pump giving in or air leak in lines?

i know its very frustrating, normally everyone has an idea - usually involving changing expensive items as if theyre nothing! is your engine fitted with a rev limiter? ive no idea how to test one (stators, regulators triggers etc ive done) but could it be worth going along that line? im not sure how they work, but i reckon any fault on the ignition would result in a lumpy engine. is the boat loaded with same weight - your hull isnt full of water is it?!

If it's down by nearly 1000 rpm and you didn't do anything to the engine, then I'd check all cylinders to make sure they're all firing.

Plug leads

Had a similar problem with our Opti.

Would drop about 500rpm after 30 seconds at WOT.

Really stumped the engineers. Injectors? Air injectors? Fuel filters? Fuel pumps? ECU?

Decided to start looking at the cheapest parts first - and thought back to my first car.

One of the plug leads had chafed on the block and as soon as everything got hot must have been shorting / breaking down>

New set of leads and bingo back as she was :-)
