Transom height

I have specified a transom suitable for XL outboards, In conversation with a supplier today I was informed few sub 115HP outboards are available with the XL option. Now the Honda FS 90 is but this begs two questions-
Was he talking b***ks and am I uneccessarily restricting my choice or OB to get a little extra height on the transom ie would I be better altering the order to suit Long shaft instead of X long shaft engine fit?

Bruce,

Edit:

the Yam F90 is available in 25" (XL) shaft length. (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard...s/2/specs.aspx)
the etec 90 is available in 25" (http://www.optimax-outboards.com/e-tec%2090.htm)
and so is the suzi DF90 (http://www.suzukimarine.com/sr_07/df115-90/)
and mariner do them in both standard 4 stroke and optimax (http://www.marineroutboards.co.uk/pdfs/enen$mariner-eu-2007.pdf)

so I would say your analysis seems about right:

My recommendation would be to go with the full height transom ..... I have experienced both on several makes and when you have two fat boys kitting up towards the stern, you will be grateful for the extra transom height - otherwise I think you find you are regularly getting swamped as waves "lap" over ........ it keeps the engine nicely out of the water at standstill as well

........... oh the Opti 90/115 is available in 25"

We are in Oban at Easter ... and Spring Bank > will your baby be ready by then ?

We would recomend an XL with a plain transom or an L if you have a rear deck to prevent water coming into the boat if that's what you prefer.

That was my reasoning, I have too many times been sat up to the top of the tubes in water and the extra height would be handy. I thought he was talking B***ks when he said it. My preffered motor is a Yam or Honda and they are both available now I have checked!
My hull doesn't get delivered till mid march and I still have to completely fit out and get an A frame built. I reckon it will be at least July/August before it is ready so no Easter playtime unfortunately...........:-(
