Tohatsu 30....

Hi all...

have been looking for a 40 tiller ctrl for the D Class....picked up a Tohatsu 30HP tiller (L/S) from a mate.

Is three years old but had sat for a couple of years unused. Wouldn't start, turned out that the butterfly in the carb was seized solid. Having stripped and cleaned the carb, is now running fab.....ran it out on the Avon SR4 today, was great fun....fab boat!

There is a plastic restrictor plate fitted between the carb and the block....possibly daft question, but could this be removed /swapped to increase HP (closer to the 40 I was looking for)?..... or am I just going to cause problems?

Thanks, Dan

Do You mean part 7-1 in the picture? That is a restrictor, but that restricts the 30 hp to a 25hp, so if you already have a 30hp this one should not be there?

Many thanks....that's it! It is badged as a 30, but def has that restrictor part 7-1....weird!

So...I guess it can't hurt to remove it then?

Theres no chance they made a 40 and restricted it to 30 is there?...... just optimistic thinking?

Hi, I think You need to repace it with a gasket (can later give You the part number). To achieve full 30hp power, also the timing need to be adjusted, there is a thread here on the forum about that. However, have heard that some of the engines already have the correct timing for 30 hp as factory default. As a 30hp not recomended to exceed max RPM at WOT.

I have the same engine as restricted, done plenty of NM this summer, no issues what so ever.

Hi, the carb gasket part number for 30HP is 346-02011-0 but pls re-check with your
supplier. To my knowledge the 40 hp is totaly different engines than 25/30hp.

Many thanks again C-NUMB. Much appreciated....think there is a Tohatsu dealer in Milford, so will call him too.

Thanks
