Suzuki DF140 stolen from PE12 South Lincs 11/04/2025
Hi, My Suzuki DF140 was stolen from my RIB at 1pm on 11/04/2025 from my home in PE12, Spalding, Lincs area, Please look out for these for sale, they were very well prepared, cutting through wire fencing, they had a sack barrow to transport it, and drove across a large mud field to get away.
Thanks

Really sorry to hear this. The only thing we've ever lost, a trailer, was when living in the Fens and exactly the same MO. Well organised, cut wire fence and pulled out over the adj arable field.

Trigger Alert - imma say some stuff
To the OP, sorry to hear that, seems to be going around.
But guys, srsly, who are these lads? We need to get them on here, posting the low down on how they do it! I mean, we have all these launch threads with much hand wringing about transom wheels, beach noodles, launch trolleys, sand, shingle, waves etc and these gadges swan in over rough terrain, through perimeter defences and pinch a 140hp motor and vanish! BTW, they're gonna be raging when they discover it produces a mere 128HP but who's gonna feel sorry for them...

Thanks, which engine would you recommend I get to replace this then seeing I have to replace everything anyway? Can't be more than 220kg or 150hp

A couple of years back - there was much love for the Merc 150hp - certainly fits weight wise. There will be people along shortly with more clue than me!

Can’t add much regards replacement, and sympathise with the OP.
Ultimately you can take as many precautions as you like, but determined thieves will weigh up the risk and make a decision accordingly.
To the OP, might be worth considering finding new storage location, preferably under hard cover. Not unknown for these low-lifes to strike twice. They knew exactly where to go, so chances are you were identified from a previous outing or recce’d. Consider a tracker or some other device if local constabulary are interested enough in follow-up.

Very sorry to hear about the theft - out of interest how did they get the engine off any lock or was it simply bolted through the transom? Did they do much damage to the boat?

Hopefully you have insurance and they cover with a new for old. How old was the engine ?
Its quite shocking that anyone would go to that much effort just for an outboard which will likely only be used for parts.

Hi, yes I do have insurance, the outboard was the age of the boat when new, 2012 and I hope they do something as I can't find any 140s used anywhere at the moment, I hope they get me an engine even if it's only the same age as the old one. Thanks

Unfortunately they wont get involved in finding you a new engine, they will pay you what they consider the current value of an engine of the age yours was. Which is usually substantially less than you'll be able to find one for. I'd be surprised if they offer you 50% of current new price.
Re what to replace with my personal preference would be yamaha or Suzuki however both are slightly over your recommended transom weight. The 150 merc is a fair bit lighter & probably worth looking at.
Unfortunately if you want new your going to have to dig fairly deep to finance a new engine if you cant find used.
Re the theft there realy isnt much you can do to stop an outboard being stolen, I've removed all kinds of different outboard locks & with battery grinders the locks dont slow you down much at all, its literally seconds to remove even good quality bolt locks.

A few kgs over the reccomend weight won't make any difference & 1 kg is realy splitting hairs. If that engine fitted the bill & the price was right 1kg over wouldn't bother me

Depending how long it takes to source a different engine, there are a few Yamaha F115s (XL) at Bill Higham. I know it’s not the forever engine, but would get you on the water.

Oh right thank you, I thought it was a big non going even a few kg over, once you've added oil etc to it.
Thanks
