Sternpower installation.

Hi, could anyone advise me the best sealing compound to use when bolting in my sternpower outdrive? When I removed the old unit there was a white substance that had formed a hard outer layer but had remained soft inside. I`m a great fan of Sikkaflex but not sure if thats the right way to go as some types go off solid and I`d probably need a chainsaw to remove the drive in future!!
Obviously I have a new cork/rubber outer gasket too, as well as the plate with 7 holes inside!

sealant

The white or grey stuff that never sets is called polysulphide sealant. You can get it in a builders merchant - its getting quite rare though.

We use this between the faces and then a small fillet of sikaflex round the edge.

Dont ever be tempted to use silicone.

Good luck. JC

sikaflex just simply should work as well as it does!

should be marketed as "some sticky tack"

I found black polysulphide sealant in Jewsons in tubes that fit a standard frame gun, took the advice and put in an outer thin bead of sikaflex 221.
The drive is now fitted, bleeding the steering was a pig! Still have a few bubbles in it but its solid enough, lift/tilt rams were thankfully easy!
Sadly I`m off to sea for a month tomorrow si I won`t be doing any sea-trials until end of July. Hope the weather stays fine.
