Setting the timiing on a Mariner 60E

I'm trying to setup the timing for a 1983 2 stroke 60hp mariner 60E outboard.

According to the manual, I need to set the flywheel to a certain point and line up a line on the pulsar coils with a line on the flywheel window (by adjusting the stator).

On the pulsar coils, there is no line marked on them as described in the manual. There is also no mark on the flywheel window.

While there is a little "window" that I might be able to see the coils through the flywheel, when the flywheel is at the correct point, the stator cannot be adjusted to make the coils appear in the window. Even if I could see the pulsar coils, there aren't any markings.

Hope that makes sense! Any pointers?

Hi, I is it a 2 or 3 cylinder, and if three, does it have a wraparound cowl?

If it's an 83 Mariner there is a chance it might be same as mine, but I can' remember off the top of my head all the name suffix stuff.... If it is, there is no window and you may be looking at a Yam manual for a Merc respray or vice versa. No point in telling you about the wrong engine!

It's a Yamaha 2 stroke, 2 cylinder mariner and 1983 at that!

In that case I;ll need to hand you over to the Yam Experts, I thought you might have a respray of mine.
