Selva Piranha 9.9h

Hello,
I'm looking for advice from anyone who's run a Selva Piranha 9.9hp outboard, especially if you've had one from new in the last few years. Just really wanted to know how reliable its been and if with the single cylinder it runs fairly smoothly. There's a dealer near me and I may be able to ask if I can run one but I thought I'd ask here.
I'm thinking of running it on a 3.2m solid floor zodiac initially.

Cheers.

As I'm now a bit weight restricted in what I want to manage I looked at these recently prior to finding my 26kg 9.8 2-stroke. This particular Selva model is pretty light at some 7kg less than other makers 2 cyl 4-strokes.

So despite being sorted myself be really interested to hear more of them.

Sounds OK in this video but I have read comments they are a bit noisy.

They also do an interesting elec start version with integral battery under the cowl which I believe is no more heavy (or even lighter?) than most makers manual start models.

Sounds ok for a single cylinder I think there’s a yam relationship with selva if I remember correctly

Yeah, also interested if anyone has any actual experience of these. Have wandered around the Selva stand at the Boatshow on numerous occasions and certainly look smart enough.

Always thought if we couldn’t source a 9.8 Tohatsu then one of these might be an option, albeit not expecting it to be as silky smooth or powerful.

Just taken a punt on a cheap lightweight boat so might even have to take another punt on a lightweight motor.

In that case I vote you as the Selva tester!

Hi thanks all for the replies and for the video Fenlander. Yes I was interested because of the weight and the price.
I hadn't considered an electric start but as you say Fenlander they do supply them and the battery is integrated under the cowl, I was told. I don't know what the price premium is or if it has a pull start backup.
If I ever get to try one, (the workshop had one, but it was lent out when I last went in), or if I ever buy one, I'll let the forum know how it goes.

Well, the engine certainly seems to perform OK in that video, the boat appears to get on the plane even with two adults and three Chirps on board

(l assume mum is doing the filming)

The 209cc twin cylinder four stroke Parson 9.8hp might also be worthy of consideration at 38kgs?

lt's a bit heavy, the Piranha weighs under 30kg

Over 30kg becomes much more difficult to manhandle around and lift onto the transom etc
