Hi..what are selva outboards like? Think its a 9.9 from the late 70's

Wouldn't touch it even if it was free. Was given a 15hp and a 25?hp a few years ago. Wasted a weekend trying to get them running.

However their new four stroke range is okay I believe.

Historically an unusual brand in the UK with the resulting difficulties in parts, servicing etc. No reputation for reliability - which may be a real issue, or just lack of data - but any 1970s engine is probably for someone who enjoys fixing engines at the best of times.

Their modern 4 strokes are reputedly yamaha's with a different badge.

I think the reliability issues are coupled to the lack of spares, I sold a selva rib/engine package that I had a few years back and it wasn't too bad, the guy has still got it and still all good, I suppose if you can't get a service item the thing isn't working, so unreliable
