Overtightened prop nut… the results!

Due to a misunderstanding between myself and my torque wrench, I massively overtightened a prop nut the other day. Silly mistake (I’ve learned from it) — but thought there might be interest in the results. It turns out you can make a threaded nut into a washer with this one simple trick!

NB — we couldn’t initially take it off the propeller end threads, but managed with some aft force from the propeller, and heating from a heat gun.

Oh deer, lesson learnt. I tighten with one hand and not over forcefully, been doing it this way for almost 50yrs and never had an issue and averaging 1500 engine hours per year on the work boat.

Must have took some effort to do that, how did you hold the prop still without damaging it?
