Outboard support during transport

Hello,
I have just bought a 2018 SeaSearch 390 with a 20HP Marina outboard on a trailer. Two questions from a newbie.
1) Can I just leave the outboard on the boat simply tightened down onto the transom and tow it around without fear or should I use addition methods to strap the engine down to the trailer or even remove it completely for long journeys. (So far I have only towed it 15 miles home)

2) I have a van which I have converted into a camper. MY plan for some trips is to carry boat on roller roof rack (Not sure if inflated or folded is best) and carry outboard in the back of van. The outboard would fit nicely into the 'tunnel' under the double bed if lying on its side but is it permissible to move it this way or does it need to be standing upright?

Many thanks
Paul

Others may disagree but IMO I would take the OB off and put it in the van if you have the space, just make sure you lay it down the right way up (assuming it's a 4 stroke)
As for putting it on the roof of your van, 68kg is a lot to be lifting so high? I put my SIB, 58kg, on the roof of my Navara and just about manage with 2 of us doing it.

If the outboard and fuel is in the van it will stink. Better to use a hitch rack or some way to store them outside.

Correct.
I think you could (reversibly) mod a towbar mounted bike rack as an engine carrying platform using pieces of timber.

I mustn't have much of a sense of smell as my OB and fuel tank only has a slight smell, and that's usually because I've spilt a bit of fuel on the tank and not wiped it up properly.
Could it be that it is a EFI and not a carb?

it would steve unless you had drop nose bolts on the top fixing so you could just detach fit the wheel and same again drop nose bolts for the wheel
