Outboard servicing

Hi all
I'm new to boats, & have just bought a used Bombard 3.8 inflatable with a mariner 15hp 2 stroke outboard.
The outfit has had 30 hours use, including saltwater.
Should I get the motor serviced?
What's involved & what shoul I expect to pay?

Many thanks for any advice

Dave

How do you know it's only done 30 hours? unless you are sure of the history I would get a service done, it shoudn't be expensive. Try Gregg at G B Watersports/ peterbourgh, he is very fair

Its worth getting it serviced. How old is the engine? it might have only done 30hrs but if it 30 hours over 3 years it should have had 3 services in that time.

Thanks for the replies.

the motor is a 2005 model, I bought it direct from the original owner who claimed 'no more than 30 hours' use!

I'll give this bloke Greg a bell in the morning then.

Many thanks

If you're mechanically minded - a 15hp 2-stroke is a perfect engine to work on for DIY servicing. Not only are you saving money, but more importantly, you'll understand what makes it tick, which can't be a bad thing.
