I've been told by 3 independant merc agents that it's fine to use TCW3 oil such as Rock MP3 etc...

Just thought you'd like to know.

At 4500 rpm cruising speed, my opti's run at around 35:1

Mentioned this to a Merc tech and he didn't even blink so I guess it's normal.

Shocking IMO

I've just googled XD100 ratio, apparently Etecs run around 50:1.

This is interesting:-
The big killer to any motor is soot. It is a pure abrasive. Soot is caused by fuel & oil that is not completely burnt or a motor that is running too cold ALSO motors that are lugging cause soot. This is why it is very important to adhere to the recomended OPTIMUM RPM suggested by BRP. If your motor revs easy at all RPM then it is breathing easy & scavenging all those exhaust gases getting rid of all that soot. XD100 oil is tha absolute BEST OIL to use in your E-Tec because it leaves NO RESIDUE at all, no smoke either.

On the stateside etec forum I'm sure they say around 70:1 for XD100 and 50:1 for XD50. But it all depends what the engine is doing/what boat its on, it is constantly variable isnt it?
