Optimax 250 anyone?

Looking at options to power the new Rib,and been offered a Brilliant deal on a new 250 Opti,Pluss save me painting an E-tec! I'd be interested in seeing one in action on a 7m-ish if at all possible?
More than happy to pay fuel ect. Just mention I live in the ''South.''

Also info from owners would be of interest.Cheers.

Not the Big un's, only White! H.O's come in Blue but they're not on my shopping list.

Is that not over the max hp for a 6.8 ?

I am now it's working!

I've always liked opti's but they are quite complex, lots of injectors, pumps, sensors etc I don't want to start a debate but as with most engines they are great while they are working but expensive to fix and can have niggly faults that are hard to cure. As for the Opti, I like the 3.0L V6 growl, I like the build quality and to work on it's not too bad access wise.

So all in all, yes I am happy with it.

The whole Rateing thing is a little subjective as you know Jim,the Hull can definately take it!.. and some.
Weight,(and of course Insurance) ARE important.Both of which are fine.

I don't understand if it's rated at 225 it's rated at 225, I assume you either need a letter from the builder stating more hp is ok to keep the insurance company happy or you take a risk ?

Loved my 200.. I assume the 225 & 250 have the same V6 block but some other tweaks ?

A bit rough at low revs, but as soon as you open it up its an awesome noise. I had lots of people who were surprised at the pick up compared to modern 4strokes.

Old boats just out of the water so cant get you out on it (but it may be for sale next year anyway ....tempting to buy it back)

Get the opti - you'll love it. The new ones are by all accounts smoother at low revs as they changed the injection mapping etc.

Most Insurance companys DO undrestand. Mine have a maximum speed to length ratio, which for a sub 6m Rib is 50 knots.Not sure the figures for pluss 6m but even with a 250hp on the 6.8, I'm certain I won't be speeding in excess of 50knts! So the point moot.
The thing is, Hull rateings are flexable and open to change,the trouble is the manufacturer has to pay ( several grand) each time they up-rate any particular hull.Things move on,as is the nature of things,sometime it takes time for manufactures to catch up..ESPECIALY when it costs them.
You can see this clearly if you look at the older rateings for alot of hulls,they have steadley increased.The Ribcraft 585 I think was only rated at 100hp in the early years, now its 150!A 50% increase.
My old Rib Mr Jingles an R.C.545 was originaly rated at 90hp! A deeper hull and only 40cm shorter than a 585,when I wanted to up-rate the power with a 130e-tec I contacted them,and they explained the situation regarding rateings. When I re-powered, it Made a good boat into a great one!
So,in short if the Boat can take it,And the Insurance company can take it =NO problem!
Ofcourse we're talking keeping the insurance premiums standard,if you wanted to go even faster or Race ect you could,but it would cost you more,I hope this helps.

Well now well now. I think you'll find that the 25" Etec 250 (non-HO) is available only in White. Over to you Chris

BTW, Maximouse, I think the Opti is the PERFECT match for a RIBKRAFT¡

Assume you mean is 20" OK for a Deep V....Depends on how deep the transom cut out is I guess. I ran a 20" on my Osprey and had about a 4" cut out. I prefer this as it kept the engine COG low down on the transom. Certainly worked for me.
