Optimax 135 safe mode

Hi all
After about 2 hours of driving round my optimax gave a long continuous beep and went to safe mode. Smart gauge of course isn't working but was goin grand at 25 knots, long beep then safe mode. No codes showing up on the diagnostic, oil in the engine reservoir and its pumping water away. Whay could it be? Switched it off for 15 mins and no change

Without the smartcraft working or plugging it in to the merc diagnostics it will be hard to tell…….
On my 200 opti the last fault which caused it to go into limp mode was the level sensor in the engine side oil bottle failing…… once I was happy the engine bottle was filling from the remote reservoir, I disconnected the sensor and made a short cable to jump the sensor (cable with two male bullet connectors) it allowed me use it for a few weeks until I got a bee oil bottle……

I put it on the vessel mobile Mercury scam tool and nothing showed up bar the oil sensor on the engine side and a faulty fuel sensor. I do have the 4 beep alarm and I know that sensor is dodgy is the oil tank but it fills as it should.i read that the pcm does some calculation from when it detects the oil level fault and shuts it down once it has run for that period of time. That true or just bollocks?

I don’t think so, just disconnect the sensor cable on oil bottle and put in a jumper cable. You’ll know straight away if the alarm doesn’t sound after startup.
I ran mine like this for weeks at all throttle ranges with no issues.

What happens with the sensor is the magnet either falls off or degrades causing the fault. Known issue and new oil bottle c/w sensor is the solution.

Did that this morning and ran like a dream all afternoon. Jesus these are sensitive engines for sensors.
