old Yam 90 2 stroke

I've just been told I need to replace the trim motor. Does anyone have or know of one knocking around anywhere? Preferably used but in fair to good condition. It is the older one I'm told circa 1980 and prob the same one from the 60 up to the 90.

Many Thanks

Ian

If its totally gubbed, you might be lucky & find it;s only brushes or springs it needs. I refurbished one for about £12 (new set of brush springs & a seal kit).

If it's gubbed, you arenlt going to loose anything taking it apart.

What's it doing (or not?)

<Puts his refurbishment hat on>

My clamshell upgrade had a similar problem. 2 evenings with various wire brushes / emery paper etc and what looked like a heap of rust turned out to be a reasonably solid case underneath.

And mine didnlt seat either (tiny section O- ring so the slightest thing and it unseated)

Resprayed it with etch primer etc. Seems to work OK.

Anyhow, if that doesn't appeal, or it has actually rusted beyond repair, the places I have had success with are:
David Anderson Marine (Tayport)
Ardoran MArine (nr Oban, Suz dealer but does get old stuff as well)
MJ marine (New Holland, by the Humber)
Boating Mania in Upminster (but that was a few years ago, so may not still keep the old stuff)
And there's a place at Pembrey or Bury Port (Whichever has the Marina) that I can't remmeber the name.

All findable on Google. I should of course Mention Bill Higham in Manchester who has a huge collection of old stuff, but opinion on here seems variable as to his pricing policy.

Ok so today I bit the bullet and ordered an after market job from the US. let me think £182 including shipping against £399 both obviously subject to VAT. Hmmmm why don't we buy more bits here in the UK? I personally love to give money to the taxman NOT.

yam 90

i think it was martin at spencer davies marine in burryport.I heard that the firm had changed hands and there is no longer a spares department. The phone no doesn't work anymore either.A big shame as martin was very good at finding you the part you needed even if it took some time.I bought many parts from there over the years. Not sure where to go now but the u.s.websites suchas boats.net list everything and it's availability and they give you lots of workshop drawings as well which are handy when you are working on your engine!

The company now trades under the name 'Gower Marine'
Martin (tot) has retired but there's another Martin working there who knows his stuff. When Gower Marine took over the business, they had a big push selling off a lot of second hand stuff, but they still have a good stock of spares (well they did a few months ago anyway)
