Mercury Tilt & Trim

I currently have a Mercury 50 ( about 1985 ). It is currently manual tilt and trim. Is there a kit I can buy to convert this to power tilt trim. I have found some in the US and although I am prepared to pay the price, the delivery and import duty costs almost double the price. The one I found in the US was a CMC. Is there a dealer for this in this country. The other one I heard of was a Panther. Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome. I dont really want to change the engine because it is in excellent condition and I trust it.

Hi

i recently went down this very route, seems the only real way to source a power tilt and trim is from a marine dismantler/repairer and see if they can provide you the correct kit for your size engine, your right you can buy a universal kit in the states for a lot less but once brought in it does not work out much less than buying a kit here, i tried to source one for myself but ran aground big time, i've now given up and started working on getting my arms in better shape.

best of luck and if you do find a better source please let me know.

Richard

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this .
All signs say that you should be able to fit the power trim kit p/n 856197A1 but go to your nearest Mercury service dealer as the cost maybe quite high and you may not wish to spend that kind of money on an old o/board

Andre,

Many thanks for your information regarding the tilt/trim. I would have thanked you earlier but I have been offline and out for a few weeks.

You are right, it works out very expensive. In fact, nearly as much as the boat is worth. Basically to upgrade to power tilt trim would cost somewhere in the region of £1700 doing it with Mercury original parts. I think I will wait a year or 2 and then just fit a new engine to it. There seems to be some good offers around and a lot of good secondhand ones with power tilt trim already on there.
