Mercury Optimax 225

Any reports good or bad on the Mercury Optimax 225HP ? just about to buy a rib with one fitted,it's got under 10 hours on it so I don't expect any problems. A ruff fuel consumption on a 6.9 Mtr rib would also be handy.
Many thanks in advance.

very very quick engine, I have one fitted on an 8 metre boat and GPS has recorded 59 mph!

Running sensibly you should be able to get about a litre per mile.

Has the boat got the Smart Gauges fitted? These give you all the fuel consumption rates etc when you are running to allow fine tuning.

I manage a 7.3 Gemini with a 225 opti. the boat i sheavy and runs up to 12 passengers. with a full comliment of passengers she burns 20/22 GPH (american) which runs out to 80 to 85 LPH. This is maxed out and probably pulling 40 knots.

I think thats a very reasonable consumption for an engine thats working it's valves off. she runs about 80 litres an hour at full chat empty but then the boats is getting near to 50 knots.

On a 69 the figures would be much more reasonable and the power would be exciting
