Mercury Engine Hours

Hi people, just fitted a new Verado so more sensitive to hours logged and noticed it seems that the engine log hours seem to be shorter than an hour in time to me! I am wondering does the engine log start ticking once the ignition key is in the on position or when the engine is started or is it just that the 'hours' it recognises are shorter than the hour in time we measure . .

It seems I am using up time quicker than I expected. That ain't cricket!

That's really interesting, my 115efi has just come back from its service and I was really surprised how many hours it had done.

My Suzuki logs engine hours once the ignition is on (without engine running)

Etec logs both, EMM hours (ie key on time) and engine run time, but I think the one displayed is the engine run time. No idea about other makes though.

Should have also said when i get it serviced you can get a print out of engine hours at banded revs to get a true number of engine hrs

Mercury also gives you a read out of exactly what the engine has done, will ask for a print out next time.

Next time you have a service ask for PCM exact hours registered to it . It will also register what hours the engine has run thorough the rev range from idle speed to 1500rpm ect so you can tell if the outboard has been hacked all its life

Also tells you when you over speed the engine.....and aren't quick enough on bringing the power back when the prop comes out the water..... Don't ask how I know that......

Merc engine hours only get logged when the engine is running, not when the ignition is on.
