mercury 9.9 2 stroke idle speed

I have a question relating to a mercury 9.9 two stroke ,I need to know what idle speed I should be running the outboard( choke lever rotation ) full revs ,halfway,or just ticking over ,I'm also having problems with planing, the sib just launches into the air I have tried the different trim settings seems to make no difference or is it just a matter of controlling speed and weight distribution and obviously the flatter calmer waters makes it easier to speed along any help greatly appreciated I have an avon typhoon 3.4 metres in length
