That’s where the gasket look nipped Alan. Following your carb cleaner trick I think that’s where it’s sucking air.

The gasket is rubber and sits in a channel. I tried to fill the gap with gasket sealant but don’t think it worked. The one that’s turned up looks pristine so fingers crossed

Well it’s working but something of a bodge. Reed cage gasket was deffo broken. New cage improved that.

Now it will tick over when primed but cuts out when you put the knob back in

However it will slow run primed happily and go into gear and rev. Throttle up push the knob back in and runs fine. Back to slow run and needs the prime knob out to stop a stall

But it’s running and running well so I’m leaving it as is for now

I suspect there is a small air leak somewhere but the engine is 20 plus years old so could be anywhere

Summary is back on the water stops starts tucks over with some help so all good

Thanks for all advice and encouragement I nearly gave up more than once [emoji1][emoji106]

Glad you’re getting there Neil, off topic but todays fuel gives problems I’ve a 15 year old chain saw had no probs not done much but this year only run for short periods turns out the carb gaskets etc are well stretched and not pumping fuel. Hope you get it to run as you want.
