maximum engine rating advice

I was wondering if anyone could answer me a question that i keep getting different opinions on. I am looking at buying a new engine for my rib. The rib has a maximum rating of 100hp or 175kgs. Is this just an over precaution from a manufacturer or a definite maximum. I have a contact that has a 115hp mariner optimax for sale soon and the book weight on this 175kgs. I obviously like the best performance hence why i have purchased a rib! I'd appreciate other peoples comments and maybe some of you have put larger motors on your ribs than you should.

Thanks, Tommy

Remember insurance companies will find any reason to avoid paying out in the event of an accident. Personally, I wouldn't take the risk... but then I do wear a belt AND braces!

Read your post again. I'm not sure whether the manufacturer's recommendation is weight AND hp or one OR the other. If I were you, I'd contact Valiant to find out and if it is the latter, get it in writing then get the 115 lump!
