Mariner/Mercury Automix

I'm probably going the wrong way about this, but I have got the engine before getting another rib.

Whats this system like?

Its a mariner 60hp, mid 80's. Is it just as simple as doing away with this and running on premix?

I prefer to run on pre-mix with older outboards, one less thing to worry about

Is it the autoblend unit or a tank under the cowl?
