Mariner 60efi hydraulic loss

Hi all,
The motor had a new hydraulic pump last year. It’s been fine since but all of a sudden I’ve lost power on the trim. Pump sounds fine, no pitch change when trimming up or down just incredibly slow so it needs a helping hand to trim up. Have I blown an o ring or something causing fluid loss?

Thanks,

J

Check the hydraulic fluid reservoir. These units use ATF fluid. Sounds like air is getting into the system, which would indicate a leak. Does it gurgle on operation? The brushes on the motor can also fail, but if it sounds like it's healthy, look elsewhere.

Top up and review. If it is leaking, you could see a slight weep on the rams. You need a special tool to remove the caps on the hydraulic ram, to access the 'o' ring seals.

Topped it up and there is quite a bit coming from the bottom of the ram between the pump when trimming up/down… this doesn’t sound too promising as a diy fix…

Depends what you normally deal with DIY?

A lot of this depends on having the right tools, a bench vice, etc. The end caps require a specific tool, and quite honestly - some of the rubbish on Ebay won't last 2 minutes when you add a breaker bar, potentially damaging the end cap in the process.

This is quite an interesting video for a Yamaha 90hp 2-stroke who makes some rookie mistakes. It's interesting all the same.

If it were me - I'd replace all the trim and tilt seals. No point just dealing with the one that's leaking given the time to strip down. Plus you don't want water ingress given the cost of these units.
