List of outboards with weights and which models allow 3 side lie-down

Hi all,

I'm on the hunt for my first outboard for my first sib. I've read through a ton of threads here and elsewhere and I've settled on a four stroke but want to be able to comfortably carry it, so 6hp seems to be the max with engines around 28kg. I also want to be able to lay it down in my car on different sides (so that we have the option is squeezing it in around our other luggage)

I'm wondering if there is a list or website that shows which outboards can be laid down on 3 sides along with the models, engines year, and possibly other important features?

Essentially I'd love to know which 6hp outboards can be laid on 3 sides (and which years each brand's 6hp started to be able to be laid in 3 sides) so that I know which ones to look for when buying second hand.

Thanks all and hello!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

There is no such list related to all the info you might want re outboards but I'd do what I've done over the years for SIBs... make up a chart (mine is on paper) of the info you need and then look round filling in each extra bit of data as you discover it. A good source of info is pdf operation manuals online for the various models and year ranges.

You can do this with Yamaha 4,5 and 6hp from 2010 on. Model codes F4B, F5A, F6C

Hi Livewater.
The current Suzuki 6 hp(23/24 kilos) will store on 3 sides.

Sorry for the very late reply. Thanks for the info Fenlander, Davie, and Old Seahorse.

I've pretty much decided on a Yamaha F6CMHS and am now keeping an eye out for a good/low use used model. Would like to go for something larger but back issues prevent me.

What sort of things should I be looking at for when looking for a used one? I'll be looking for one which is relatively new (with some warranty remaining - im assuming it transfers between owners without issue...).

Are the lighting coils useful? This will be my first time sibbing, so not sure

thanks all

Any dealer can transfer the balance of warranty to new owner. The F6c charge kit is £170 and takes just under an hour to fit.

Ps don’t try to be crafty by sourcing the lighting coil and the rectifier, buy the kit you need the flywheel in the kit to make it work, it has internal magnets!

Re lighting coils I have a SIB that I set up daily and everything electrical/electronic is self contained either running on internal rechargeable batteries or AAs etc. So I would never let the lack of a lighting coil be a negative with an OB... or pay to have one fitted. If however you were doing expedition type outings of several days then the a 12v charging option might be useful.

Thank you, I won't be, so that clears that up.
