Johnson 70hp VRO Prop

Hi,

Just bought a 5.4m searider.

It will be quite lightly loaded. Ali a frame, and small console.

Got a 70hp VRO Johnson to go on the back.

Looking to get a feel for a prop recommendation. I'm feeling like a stainless 4 blade, but pitch and diameter I'm a bit stuck! Even suppliers seem a little thin on the ground!

Thanks! First post!

I had an ex RNLI 70 Evinrude on a Ribtec 535. From memory the standard prop for the engine is 13.75 x 17 with 3 blades which was a really good match. The gearbox is quite lowly geared so turns a large prop slowly. This is good news on a rib because the prop is less likely to ventilate bouncing through the waves.

What size prop do you have at the moment? if nothing then to keep the cost down how about trying a 4 blade composite prop. I have lost the link but there was one on e bay in the US second hand. It would make a great spare prop to have on board if it is close to the ideal size and give you a good start point before buying stainless steal.

Hi jwfrary,

Thought this might help you decide if you have not seen it already; -
