Johnson 1972 6HP, still serviceable?

I have the above on offer cheaply ($200au).

I was wondering it they would still go ok if serviced well?

Matching it up to a 2.8m sib.

It's a match age wise for my 4Hp and the surplus 25Hp that both run ........

So in a word - yes!

Only thing to remember is that it would be 6Hp at the crank, so probably feel more like a New 5Hp.

I see, might just be a bit underpowed for a 2.8m 2 up then. I figure it will plane with 2, just at 6hp, but 5hp it would need a trim tab and weight up front and only on calm days.

I like the idea of an older engine, some nostalgia.

I guess it depends what you want to do with it.... what's the boat rated for?

Does the 6 have an anti cavitation plate? My 4 has nothing to fix fins to!

There is a tiny reason for my aux being what it is........

Boats rated to 8hp. These are half way between an 8 and 5 in weight, unlike most 6s which are same weight as 8s.

Mostly just used for 2 people near shore to get to spearfishing spots.

Normality resumes......

At that age the shaft was extended by adding a 4 or 5" insert to the leg, so if it turns out to be long then it's a "simple" case of sourcing a short drive shaft & water tube, & removing the insert.

It should be pretty obvious!
