Would love some advice, I work in the back-waters of the Middle East and my company has a four year old E-Tec Evinrude 90HP. Problem being in the last two months for no reason two of the three injectors failed. Hard to believe the local dealer does not posses the diagnostic software to check the system and no-one on the Island does refrub/cleaning etc. Our onsite mechanic thinks it dirty fuel but the tanks are always kept full and all filters changed regularly. Also all 400 boats in the marina use the same fuel station and no other problems reported
Etec injectors are VERY sensitive to water in the fuel. AFAIK, the Diagnostic Software would be required to replace an injector, as they can't be swapped around and need to be "calibrated" on the EMM, a PC job. So there's something "off" there.
Mr Willks is correct, you need the diagnostic software & cable ( not hard to find if you know where to look or who to ask) In addition you need the co-efficients for the injector that you are replacing, these are specific to each individual injector. Afaik the only way to get the co-efficients is to download them from dealerport which is only available to authorised dealers. I believe that you can strip & clean the injectors, but I've never done it personally.
