Honda 4 stoke question.

Hello. Does anybody know what year Honda went from the square top to the round top on the 10/15hp 4 stokes? There is a square top 15hp on flea bay and he says its 2008. Sounds a bit new to me. Also I would prefer to buy and engine where I know the history, reliability is key with two young kids on board. I have been mentally scared by a crappy Johnson outboard that ruined every family holiday as a kid! Any one got a 15hp for sale 2 or 4 stoke.

Kind regards Jim.

Had a 10hp honda with green decals that was 2000, and that was a rounded cowling. Reckon they changed about 1999/2000. £700 isn't outrageous for that engine, but his description is wrong. I would say its a minimum 15 year old engine, that is in below average condition (leg left in water and looks untidy under the cowl) and hasn't been looked after, regardless of whether its done a lot of work or not.

"Honda 15hp outboard engine , electric and pull start.
approx 4 years old, but done no work and very tidy. Excellent starter and runs great
These engines are +£2800 new!
On 04-Mar-14 at 12:56:08 GMT, seller added the following information:
Have now checked and engine is 2008, and has done approx 10 hours work - so runs as new It also has a built in generator to charge battery whilst running"

You will pick up a smarter engine than that one for similar money.

The advert REALLY doesn't sell it. Engine and leg are tatty at best and the 2008 is fictional.

I have one of those on my Orkney Longliner and its a '99
